Sheng Yong Xing Roast Duck Restaurant: A Blend of Tradition and Modernity

A Unique Dining Experience in Beijing's Sanlitun Area

Sheng Yong Xing Roast Duck Restaurant, designed by Wang Daquan of TanzoSpace Design Office, offers a dining experience that seamlessly blends tradition and modernity. Located in Beijing's bustling Sanlitun area, this restaurant is a small oasis that transports guests to a simpler and purer time.

Beijing roast duck is undoubtedly a unique name card of the city. When foreigners visit Beijing, they often make it a priority to taste this iconic dish. Wang Daquan drew inspiration from his childhood memories of dining at his father's company canteen, where the space was open and devoid of obvious social hierarchy. This inspired the design concept of Sheng Yong Xing, where the dining area is open yet subtly separated, allowing guests to hear other tables without seeing them.

What sets Sheng Yong Xing apart is its ability to provide a break from the complexities of modern society and revisit timeless classics. With a history of over 10 years, this restaurant embodies the concentration and inheritance of a brand that is deeply rooted in Chinese culture. The exterior walls, painted in elegant white, resemble a scroll of ancient painting that remains unopened amidst the bustling city. Inside, the classic Chinese-style interior walls create a peaceful and serene ambiance.

The design of Sheng Yong Xing incorporates natural materials and elements. By introducing three skylights into the building, the interior spaces are bathed in natural light, creating a sense of displacement and connection with the surrounding landscape. The two open private rooms in the restaurant are structured like traditional Chinese lanterns, with handcrafted iron wire light decorations that carry the soul of North China's culture.

The renovation of Sheng Yong Xing was based on the previous restaurants' structures, giving the original architectural space a new lease on life. The combination of historical Chinese culture with Western elements creates a harmonious and captivating atmosphere. The first floor houses an antique dining area and a high-end full-service bar, while the second floor welcomes guests to a different realm of tranquility and elegance.

Sheng Yong Xing Roast Duck Restaurant, completed in March 2017, is a testament to the meticulous research and creative vision of Wang Daquan and his team at TanzoSpace Design Office. This design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019, showcasing its outstanding and ingenious approach to creating a distinctive dining experience.

Step into Sheng Yong Xing and immerse yourself in a cultural atmosphere that combines tradition and modernity. Experience the extraordinary culture and history that this restaurant embodies, and rediscover the beauty of ancient Chinese traditions in a contemporary setting.
